about me
in short
I'm a seasoned broadcaster and producer - I started in Hospital Radio working the evening request shows and then moved to presenting and producing weekend afternoons on Redstone FM, a community radio station.
In 2006 I began presenting a 1-hour music show on Juntion11 Radio at the University of Reading and soon took over one of the flagship afternoon shows, as well as becoming a regular contributor on the station's weekly chart show and reading the local news bulletins.
In 2007 I took over as Station Manager at Junction11, and presided over a highly successful re-brand and re-launch in October that year. I made some key changes to the schedule to put new music, live events and campus news at the heart of the station's output. When my tenure as Station Manager came to an end I was retained as a Media Consultant by the station's Executive Committe.
Unfortunately, in 2009 I had to face the real world when I finished university and the harsh reality hit me: jobs in radio are very hard to get. This brings us to the present day - I'm in full-time employment as a wine merchant (which has its perks, don't get me wrong!), but I'm itching to get back into radio.
I dabble occasionally with radio-related projects as a freelance Media Consultant, dealing with Social Media development, producing podcasts and providing voiceovers.
Sometimes I write about wine, travel, and the media. A lot of it goes unpublished, but I'll probably put some of the better articles on my blog at some point.
in depth
2006 to present - Freelance Media Consultant |
I've undertaken a couple of pro-bono projects for communty and student radio stations, with more in the pipeline. My main areas of specialism are: Presenting, Producing & Voiceovers - 7 years experience. Available for projects of any size. Branding & Identity - helping smaller stations re-brand completely, or simply refresh and boost an existing brand. It's my job to make it as pain-free and effective as possible! Multi-Channel & Social Media - helping stations of all shapes and sizes engage with audiences through traditional and new media channels. I can provide specific social media strategies which enrich the listener experience and, with proper analysis, make a significant impact on marketing and advertising operations.

2006 to 2009 - Junction11 Radio
|
Started out as a broadcaster in 2006 and then secured a flagship afternoon show from 2007 to 2009. Actively involved in news gathering activities and presenting local and national news output. Station Manager from 2007 to 2008, where I was responsible for re-branding and re-launching the station (originally broadcasting on LPAM, moving to online-only operation). Re-focussed the station's output on new music, live events and local news. Made some key changes to the schedule to showcase key talent and offer greater opportunities to junior talent. Oversaw the introduction of podcasts for all shows (not just for flagship output) and developed a social media strategy, harnessing Facebook and Twitter for greater listener participation and brand awareness. Various social media elements were incorporated into our marketing and on-air promotions.

2006 to 2009 - Redstone FM
|
Freelance presenter and producer on a community RSL station. On the first broadcast period, I started out presenting a 1-hour 'youth' show on Sunday afternoons. For subsequent broadcasts, I presented 3-hour shows on Saturday and Sunday afternoons with a slightly broader remit. I racked up dozens of interviews with local musicians, youth groups and other important figures as part of the station's responsibilities to the community in the broadcast area. I also introduced a lot of social media elements to my broadcasts to appeal to the target demographic and to broaden my show's reach by publicising the online streaming in addition to FM broadcasting. Furthermore, I voiced several promotional campaigns for the station's sponsors, as well as numerous trails for my own show to play through the week.
